Academic Work

This assignment was from my “Media Writing” class, which I took during the Spring Semester of my freshman year at JCU. For this assignment, I was required to write an article known as a “profile piece,” which details the story of a person. In order to do this, I was required to interview not only my subject, but additional sources as well. By completing this project, I learned how to format my own interview quotes into a structured story about a particular person.

This assignment was also from my “Media Writing” class at JCU. For this assignment, I was required to write my “profile piece” story as a video news script. For this assignment, I was required to make a two-column script that would be used for a story on a television news show. By completing this project, I learned what type of script format a television news story uses, and was successfully able to implement my originally written story into a video news script format.

This assignment was from my “Working in Sports Media” class, which I took during my junior year at JCU. For this assignment, I was required to attend a live sporting event and write a recap story for the event. Additionally, for this assignment, I was required to interview at least one source from both teams, and integrate quotes from both into the story. By completing this assignment, I learned how to not only format a sports recap story, but how to conduct postgame interviews.

This assignment was also from my “Working in Sports Media” class at JCU. For this assignment, I was required to write an opinion news story about a sports topic of my choosing. For the story, I was required to reach out to a sports media professional as one of my information sources. Furthermore, I was required to address both sides of my chosen topic in the story. By completing this project, I learned how to format a sports opinion story, as well as how to write an sports opinion story that is supported with factual information.

This assignment was for my “Communication Ethics” class, which I took during the Fall Semester of my junior year at JCU. For this assignment, I was required to use one of the ethical frameworks discussed in our class to form my own Code of Ethics. Additionally, I was required to discuss ethical dilemmas that have taken place in the field of sports broadcasting, and how I would address them. This Code of Ethics is tailored to my pursuit of a career in sports broadcasting. By completing this project, I learned how to relate the ethical framework of Aristotle to my intended career field.
